LOOKING FOR MAYA NAGARI

August 27th, 2008 § 0

“a fictional documentary video in which the artist follows the search for a woman who has left India to set up a textile factory in Biella. The work explores the global connections and wider economic issues of local contexts.

Seeing a gap in the European market and using cheap resources from India, her idea is to imitate the big Italian brands. Without a name or contact, the artist travels all the way from India to Biella looking for her.
‘Maya Nagari’ means “city of dreams” in Indian.”

As a continuation of this work, the artist performed an intervention in the form of posters through the city of Biella, making a search call for the characters appearing in the video as if they were “missing”.
